Rupert Candy
Rupert is the founder and managing director of Rupert Candy Attorneys Incorporated, which was founded in 2017. Prior to that, he was a senior attorney in the litigation and dispute resolution practice at Webber Wentzel in Johannesburg. He is highly specialised in insurance litigation, representing underwriters and intermediaries, both locally, and internationally. His experience also extends to commercial litigation, dispute resolution, media law (including cyber-law), constitutional law, and competition law.
He has had the honour of leading the firm in some of the leading cases to recently come before our Courts, including in the Supreme Court of Appeal, and in the Constitutional Court, in matters related to the vindication of rights enshrined in the Bill of Rights, mainly on behalf of victims of rights abuses.
The firm, and Rupert have been recognised by the African Legal Awards for five consecutive years (2019 – 2023) as finalists, and as winners. Rupert also appears as a legal analyst for media houses such as ENCA, Newsroom Afrika, and the SABC. He has also provided commentary in print publications such as The Daily Maverick; News24, etc. One of his matters was also recently commented on by the Global Freedom of Expression Institute, which is situated at the University of Columbia, New York, USA.
Rupert is an avid sportsperson, and also enjoys music, and other art forms.
